The House of Suntory was founded in 1899 with only one singular goal in mind. That goal was to create Japanese spirits that were matched to the particular palates of the Japanese people. In 1923, this goal was amplified to include whisky. Shinjiro Torii, the company's founder, wanted to create a subtle, yet complex whisky on Japanese soil and with a Japanese approach. This is how Japanese whisky came to be born in Yamazaki, in the outskirts of Kyoto.

Hakushu is a 12-year-old single malt whisky which comes from the Southern Japanese Alps. This fresh, green whisky is distilled in a forest distillery within Mt. Kaikomagatake. The slight notes of peat and smoke make this a unique and vibrant spirit. Made from malted barley that is mixed with naturally soft and pure water from local rivers, the ageing in the middle of a forest allows for a herbal fruitiness to enter the slumbering whisky.

One of the most popular Suntory whiskies, Hakushu is perfect for drinking neat or on the rocks. It is great for pairing with tempura as the whisky will cut through the oil and will hold its own. Try this crisp and lively single malt for yourself and see how special a Japanese whisky can be.
